  • Black Woods: Book 1 (Black Woods Series) on Feb. 19, 2012

In the interest of full disclosure, the author is my aunt. That said, I was surprisingly pleased with the story. The heroine (and her side-kick sister) are in their sixties, something I found refreshing. The story centers around her and her family, their love of mushroom hunting, and a mysterious being in a section of the woods they hunt. Their fear of the creature is put to the test when four hunters go into the black woods and can't all make it out. It is a quick and easy read, but what I loved the most is that, every now and again, the author used a turn of phrase that made me laugh out loud. For instance, when a carload of young men are teasing each other, she says, "laughter filled the car like poisonous gas." It was a fun read.
  • Redemption (Redemption Series Book 1) on June 05, 2012

Redemption was one of the best books I've read in a long time. When Dayton (Day) suffers a painful loss and is forced into an unhappy situation, she pretty much numbs herself to it, until she turns seventeen and she's unexpectedly pulled into a world she didn't know existed. Handsome strangers appear in her life and suddenly no one, not her family or trusted friends, is who they seemed and she's forced to rely on the one person logic says she shouldn't. Thrown together against their will, they must fight for their lives as she realizes she's part of something bigger (and more dangerous) than she could have ever imagined. It's good stuff! I literally couldn't put it down. Plenty of action, a little romance, tons of suspense. The whole series is fantastic.
