I read this book practically in one day and enjoyed it immensely. DeBree did what she set out to do - created an action-packed, steamy romance the reader can enjoy in one sitting.
TEMPEST'S two main characters are believable and well-rounded, and I found DeBree's ability to create a novella with more than one POV very efficient. It's tricky to do this in such a short space, and I was also impressed with the heart-racing momentum in the first half of the book. Not only do the characters suffer from physical disaster one after the other, but the emotional tension keeps building in the book as well. DeBree sustained an intense plot the whole way through, and when I thought she couldn't keep it up much longer she kept springing surprises on me until the very end.
Because of the short space, however, I do believe the other numerous characters in the story suffered lack of growth. The villain was sadly flat despite a few scenes where he could have shined, and the young trouble-making, but innocent Adrienne felt flat to me, as well. I know this is a romance, but because of the adventure aspect I did expect some more focus on others besides the two heroes/lovers.
For the story's length, however, DeBree does an amazing job. Be forewarned, there are a few graphic sex scenes, but they are tastefully done and bad language is nonexistent. This romance will have you glued to your seat and turning the pages. I couldn't put it down and can't wait for DeBree's next release!
