Victor Merkel

Biography

Victor Merkel grew up near Tamaqua, PA, a mining town. As a teen, he bootlegged coal on week-ends under the guidance of a benevolent mentor. Selling bags of stove grade anthracite to poor souls gave Victor a sense of purpose and pride.

Molded by the culture and people of his community, he later pursued a bachelors degree in business marketing from the University of Wisconsin. During his career, he served as president of Vine Sales, Inc., a Chicago sales agency.

Victor is an enthusiastic reader of stories about the land and its humanity. His favorites are Earl Hamner's, The Walton's and Homer Hickam's, Rocket Boys.

He lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his beautiful wife, Fran. However, a part of him will always be in the mountains of Pennsylvania.
