Biography

I live in Austin, Texas where I've raised two daughters with my wife after a dramatic six-year stint in the S.F. Bay Area. I've worked as a high school English teacher at my district's academic magnet since 2000, but have lived in several states including Virginia, California, Florida, Colorado and Montana. Each of these places has influenced the descriptions and perspectives in my novels. I am a firm believer in writing for writing's sake: for aesthetics, for the thrill, for catharsis, for a political agenda, or simply for sheer pleasure. I've always loved science fiction that expresses possibilities, often with urgent, heartfelt promptings - the likes of Ursula K. Le Guin, Robert Heinlein, George Orwell and Suzanne Collins come to mind. But I've also been influenced by great storytellers whose main purpose seemed to be capturing the drama of being alive - J.R.R. Tolkien, Maxine Hong Kingston, Isaac Asimov, Shakespeare and Ian McEwan are a few. I write stories that I would want to read - page-turners with heart and vision. I want readers to enjoy themselves, pulled in by an exciting narrative even as they consider important ideas. I hope that you enjoy the ride.
