Michael M. Adkins

Biography

I was born in Bell County, KY in the mid-70s at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. Since then, I've resided in Hamburg, Germany; Jackson, AL; Columbus, GA; Baltimore, MD; Dover, DE; Cleveland, OH; Detroit, MI; Seattle, WA; many places in between; and currently, New York City.

I first started the craft of storytelling when I was four or five years of age. I began in the Appalachian tradition of oral story telling. I specifically retold the haint tales I'd heard older generations tell.

At the age of eight, I was enrolled at Taft Elementary in Lakewood, Ohio. The suburbs of Cleveland were a culture shock. However, I learned early to appreciate the bustle of the city and the slow beauty of rural towns. While at Taft, my teacher, Ms. Vivalo, introduced me to C.S. Lewis and Roald Dahl. It wasn't long after, I took interest in literature and composition.

Currently, my reading and writing interests are varied. I love writing set in microcosms such as Faulkner's stories and Lovecraft's tales. However, I also enjoy reading non-fiction writers such as Stephen Hawking, Michio Kaku, Bill Nye, Sam Harris, and Michel Foucault.
