At first I was intimidated when I glanced at the guide...but then when I really had time to work on a book and followed the guide carefully enough, it was worth it. You just have to take it in small doses. ^^ 5/5
  • Shimmerspell: The Shimmer Trilogy, #1 on Aug. 06, 2011

A beautifully violent merging of the mundane Earth we know and the at-first harmless by color world of Lisa Frank...with a touch of faerie....10/10! This was my first taste of the world known as faerie and I look forward to reading the sequel, Limerick. The author did an excellent job creating a strong heroine without making her too dependent on others, which is what I like best about Jensen. She is the kind of teenager I wish I was.

This book was so Buffy the Vampire Slayer in so many ways....and that's a good thing. I want to know more about India and Alex...they remind me so much of Xander and Willow....I think....There were spotty spelling errors that can be corrected, but I like the structure of the story so far. I hope this is the beginning of a wonderful series

Mr. Henderickson already knows what half this review was originally going to entail! (^_~). I LOVED THIS BOOK TO A SQUISHABLE DEATH!! Asha and Morganna are very sexy and likable....I hope we can see more of this story in development, 'cause I have a feeling that karma and revenge will do nicely...My first taste of dark fantasy, want more. Most demons that I've read about would kill thier human caregivers in Asha's case, but it was nice to see her actually care. This story flowed seamlessly.

It starts like an adaptation of Paradise Lost snd the Bible that I actually understood. The scene descriptions were okay. A nice try at a Christian soap opera...lol

Me LOVE!! It was like watching an episode of Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or Angel! Dayne reminds me of Spike and Angel at the same time---the vampire who can't help but act human for a woman he might be in love with but he knows he has to be keep up the whole badass vamp thing...I read this in two days due to time constraints but I loved this series...werecats rule!!

I just finished 4 years at Wiley College here in the States, (B.A. in English), and this book let me appreciate that degree a whole lot more. I liked the exercises in this book..especially the first one. Being dead and psychic sounds really paranormal-like..and I adored the Greek language, too. It shows the author's fearlessness when foreign languages are added to a book. I don't expect graduate school to be like this when it comes to creative writing. Very impressed!
  • Age of Dreams on Dec. 17, 2011

If my book Idol Siren is a peek into the sunshine of a soon-to-be starlet in the making, then Age of Dreams is a movie about the dark side of fame. (^_^) It's a fast paced novel about a girl named Nicola James who is an aspiring singer-songwriter. We go on a wild ride as she quickly soaks up fame that presents her with challenges like addiction and love, and her past merges with her present self very obviously in this book. Her band is really cool.

First of all, after everything I've heard about this author, I'm surprised that this book hasn't been rated yet! I was never a fan of paranormal activity (note the movie pun, lol) because all I saw was vampire vampire vampire and that drove me absolutely batcrazy. This book is different. We encounter a lovely, kick-ass heroine named Evangeline, who is a Wendigo (think the Yeti but on a much much darker and more vicious scale). Miss Fletcher gets extra points for creating my favorite type of heroine--the one who can stand on her own two feet and get what she wants while still retaining human flaws that make her beautiful. Anyway, Evangeline meets a male Wendigo named Luke who tests her emotions and own struggle to keep her beastly urges under control--and all hell breaks loose from there. Recommended highly.
  • Die, My Love (Dark Creature #1) on Jan. 25, 2012
    star star star star
This is the second book I've read by Miss Fletcher. She didn't disappoint me--as usual, she gave me a new twist on classic creature of paranormal romance--the vampyre! This book is about a girl named Lee who loves to haunt cinemas at night to stalk a certain young man who she's been dying to talk to for a while now. The freaky part? He can read her mind like a book--when she lets him. This guy is a vampyre, but he does not sparkle. At first, I thought he would be like another Edward from Twilight, but when something happens to Lee, he changes for the better, in my opinion. Points that caught my Interest: 1. The book is written in the present tense! YAY! Points for Miss Fletcher! I've wanted to write one of my own books in the present tense, but always sounds like a screenplay when I do it...Miss Fletcher's writing style is unique and flows seamlessly with the mood of the story. 2. This might turn a few people off, but I was intrigued by it: The book is written in the first person, but we are stuck in Lee's head--subject to her every thought. It's done for good reason and overall, I thought it made Lee a bit cute!! Weak Points: A few minor spelling errors and missing words caught the English major in me by surprise. Lee tells herself to shut up alot in the book. When I saw it twice, it was funny. But it was overused and got annoying. 4/5 Stars

This poetry collection is indeed a shimmery gem of darkness, but it has nothing to do with creatures that go bump in the night. The sparkle in this darkness lies in the words. Each poem reveals monsters of a different sort. I'd call 'em monsters of the soul. Everything that you fear to even think about is put to light...there's a little sadism (of the nonsexual variety) obvious comfort of the night sky that made me shiver with excitement. These poems are perfect for reading beneath moonlight. 10/10 Stars. Excellent job, Wenz!
  • A Shade Too Young on May 23, 2012

I have never been attracted to the paranormal genre in literature because I thought it was all about vampires, but I guess I'm a convert to ghost stories now. These stories are about people who are too young to die, but they do or have just died. In one story, the world has died-literally--and one person is left to document its days. These stories have taught me that every moment on Earth is too precious and our time here is limited. I really liked the character of Seraph and her fate...10/10. You are officially one of my favorite authors, Ms. Maddocks.

Absolutely stunning and magical. The world-building in 10 pages was enough to satisfy me. This story was nothing short of a magical fairy tale. Naran's journey and healing abilities remind me of Jesus of the Bible for some strange reason, but the image fits the story perfectly. I liked how his family had to go through the trials of rejection by other others and their final transformation summed up the story very well.

This is the second story by Ms. Alyse that I've read and I must say she wrote a winner. I am opening up to new genres to read and I think I made a great choice with this story. I thought it would end one way, but it did not, and that made me happy in a strange way. I found bits of myself I could identify with in all three characters, but Selah is the one who matches my personality the best.

Okay, okay. I was intrigued by the cover. Like seriously. And now that I've finished reading this screenplay, I am REALLY curious about Jodie's future with R.I.S.K, a school that's kinda creepy and bonkers and just plain strange. Like Hogwarts as if Slytherin overtook it..or worse, it's like Hogwarts as if Lord Voldemort had taken it over. This school that her parents show her has students who act like soulless robots...except for Hannah and Sam, and maybe Mattie. I want a sequel, but I've gotta get over the creep-factor I got from this work. ♥♥
  • The Butterfly Killer -- The Short Story on March 09, 2013
    star star star star star
I normally don't read crime fiction (much less like it), but this story had me interested. In "The Butterfly Killer," an innocent driving lesson is basically anything but. Timmy's extra lesson from the secretive and sly Mister Cross takes an unexpectedly dark turn with a symbolic ending. Short, sweet and to the point...A story of how many things in this life are fleeting...
  • The Number (Zincian Legend #2) on March 21, 2013

It's been 5 years ever since Kaia Ketoki started her journey as The Chosen. There's a Numbers program that hunts down demigods. This alone tests Kaia and Catrina's friendship, and we get into the characters' pasts as well as their feelings. Reeze becomes more relaxed and at the same time, more protective of Kaia, as he should be. I hope there are lovey-dovey feelings for this couple in particular. Catrina and Derek's relationship is tested, too. The RPG flair with classic village locations, mythology, and vivid imagery are present in this second book. I felt like I was playing an RPG that I don't want to end. Kaia has matured greatly and I love love her take-charge attitude. She has leadership qualities, and I also like how she gets more confidence in her ability with her own strength. I am looking forward to Book 3.

Just plain creepy! *Shudders* And yet, that's what makes Amber by Jade Alyse so awesome. This story is a beautifully woven tapestry through the mind of a disturbed young girl. She is perfectly conscious of what she's about to do....I liked this story.

Loved it, loved it, totally adored it. Ava can clearly take care of herself and allows no one to push her around, no matter how good-looking they are...*clears throat* Ethan Calhoun proves to be an exception when they meet. Tastefully realistic and beautiful. Her characters have attitude and the means to back up what they say. I have a crush on Ethan now.
