How do I start this review? Hmm...I really, really liked it!! I loved how Ari was introduced. And I love her power! It's unique and I've never seen it done in any other books I've read thus far. I love how you see things through Ari and Aimee in this install.
Ari has this unique gift that the dark side wants to destroy. She meets the most wonderful mother figure named Lydia, a ghost maid named Annabelle, a demon, a vampire and a few shifters. Ari falls in love only to have that reality changed and she struggles to right the wrongs in her past. She doesnt realize that when she alters one life, she changes everything. You then follow Ari and Aimee live in different realities loving and living differently.
I can honestly say that The Devil's Roses is fast becoming one of my favorite series I've read. I can't wait to see what happens in Hyde, the third install in this series.
Kudos Tara on yet another Smashing book!
OK....Hyde has become my favorite Tara Brown book so far! What an awesome way to add Jekyll and Hyde to the mix. And we cant forget the OG vampire himself.
You still get to see Aimee, Shane, Ari, and Aleks. But you are introduced to Hanna, our main chick. She's confused as to what is happening to her and who to trust. Then there's Marcus, the OG vampire who has this vibe he puts out there that makes you go weak in the knees.
From the start, I couldn't help but feel sorry for Hanna as she can't remember the past few days and what happened to her BFF. From there, she witnesses her fathers life be taken from him and is forced to read about his past and what she is becoming. She finds out that the people she trusted and loved are straight up evil. She meets Lydia Crane and all of her "children". When she meets Sam, she instantly feels something for him. Shes feels something for Andrew Paulson, the fine young police officer who finds her in the woods. She has like a 4 way love thing going on. Its pretty hot!
The Dark Ones want her for their side and the Good Ones want to train her to become a Rose. She is pulled in both directions and you are right there with her.
Holy Hellfire Tara! You really know how to write a great series! Hyde has an unexpected ending that made me want to throw my Kindle and burst into tears. But I understand why it had to be done. I can't wait to see what happens in Witch, Book 4 of the Devil's Roses.
Tara has made a life long fan with this one! Bringing Ophelia into the mix was genius. Making the sheriff a bad guy was awesome. Ophelia casting spells or using her magic without special words or an actual spell is great. For me, it made it more realistic that witches exist. When O finds out that Jake has been under a love spell that she didn't know she cast; that was great. It was all just wishing.
I really loved the part where O meets Giselle for the first time. I was laughing so hard. When Giselle's fangs pop out and she says "They're like a dude'th thingy. They jutht pop up randomly", I lost it. I could imagine a newborn vampire with a lispe. It's awesome! Making Giselle Queen of the Vampires...epic! I was a little sad though to see Marcus go but hey...the story must go on =)
Breaking up Sam and Hanna was a little brutal for me. They fit perfectly...her ying to his yang. But I understand why. It was a necessary break-up to push the readers along. I'm glad you did it =)
Having Ophelia feel for both Sam and Oliver was nice. Sam's sireny goodness and Oliver's dark magic juju would do that to me too. It's just a shame what happens to Sam and Oliver has to be a dick. For a while, I thought that Blake was her twin. He fit the role...it seemed plausible. Then I was introduced to Tristan. He sounds so cute and girly =)
BUT the part I LOVED most...was when Ari changed the world. I won't say anything else because I've said too much already. I had the biggest Koolaid smile then it went away. BUT... I think I like the new world much better.
Tara...you are an amazing writer! Please don't ever change! Now if I can't wait for book 5, Death to come out!
Death has become my most favorite book in the whole Devil's Roses Series!
I was thrown for a loop with the Epilogue thinking there was a mistake because I remember reading it before but then quickly realized it was the start of an awesome book. Death is full of surprises that I so wasn't expecting. I cried and laughed so many times that I lost count. I wasnt expecting Lorri's huge secret to be coming out. No...not that she's gay cuz I figured that out a couple of books back. This one is so huge and fantastical that you'll have to read Death to figure it out yourself.
One bit of info I will share is that Tara definitely made The Devil's Roses a "must-read-over-and-over-again" type series. I can never get tired of reading this series. Death adds ALOT of heart racing action that will keep you on your toes and twists and turns that your eyes will bug out of your head. It is truly well written and I love that there are different POV's throughout the series now. I can not wait for Redeemers to come out! Look for Redeemers Summer 2013!!!
Outstanding job Tara on writing such an awesome series!
Tiffany, Tiffany, Tiffany....you left me hanging!!!!!
The Imposter is a fantastical read. It takes you on such an incredible journey of a single mother trying to provide a better life for her child. Tiffany captured the sacrifices of being a parent and the survivor of abuse.
Nicole quickly makes friends and captures the eye of an incredibly sexy lead singer and also the eye a stalker. She isn't sure who to trust and she has her suspicions but the true nature of the beast rears it's ugly head and it's a whopper!!!!
I really enjoyed reading The Imposter and already started Obsession and Sacrifice.
I am hooked on these Alaskan hotties!!!!!
Sunder.... epic!!!! Tara Brown has breathed life back into the paranormal for me once again.
Sunder is amazing. Liv has the quirkiest sense of humor. Things that come out of her mouth are unique. Wolfville is named for a reason. Right off the bat, Liv and her father move to a small Un-Google-able town. There is a party that the town throws every year and they happen to move in right before it. Her step-mother, humorously dubbed NRA Barbie, tries to do the nicest things for her. Briton (I love that name) is insta-smitten with Liv once he senses her. They both have that unexplainable pull. From the ball, life will never be the same for Liv and the little town of Wolfville begins to grow on her.
What I love most about this story is that there is never a dull moment. There is a dark secret about the town and it's population that comes out within the story. Briton wants to share his secret with her before she finds out through other sources. But let's not forget the other new girl Liz. She's freaking hilarious too. She's got a secret that she doesn't know about but everyone else does. Strange??? Not really... Sunder is full of action and mystery. When the true baddies are named, you never would have guessed who was.
Sunder ranks up there with the heavy hitter paranormal romances. My only hope is that there is more to this story.
