Shooting Stars by Leslie Hodgson wasn't anything like I thought it would be. I was expecting some sci-fi type novel. Instead I was pleasantly surprised to find what I would consider a fantasy novel. When I began reading I was immediately drawn in by the action and the characters. Stella was a very realistic teenage girl who isn't so sure of herself and needed constant reassurance. Issac was the typical teenage boy, thinking he can do anything. I enjoyed the relationship between the siblings and the bond that they shared. Added into their lives were mythical creatures like winged horses and dragons! I loved the twists and turns that came at every corner. This novel was so full of action and the unexpected that I could not set it down! Overall this book is a great read! I was sad at the ending, I felt that it ended rather abruptly. I hope that means that there is another novel in the works to wrap up all of the loose ends. If so, I will be reading it! I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review.

This is a beautifully written short romantic fantasy story! I loved Leani and her determination to find a way out of a forced marriage and there is a bit of a twist which I really enjoyed. A great read overall and don't discount it because it is short, it is full of emotion and depth. I would love it if Amy Keeley decided to turn it into a full length novel, I felt like I didn't get enough of this world she has created! I look forward to reading more from Amy Keeley in the future! I received this book for free. This is my honest review.
  • The Curse Girl on May 06, 2012

A modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast, The Curse Girl has some twists and variations to the original story that keep you turning the pages! I devoured the book in one sitting and it was such a great book, I couldn’t put it down! I love retellings of fairy tales; I own many and have read many versions. Kate Avery Ellison’s is among one of the best I have read! It was refreshing and a unique spin on a classic tale! The characters are fun, interesting and relatable! I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the emotions that were felt by the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fairytales, fantasy, or young adult books. I look forward to reading many more books from Kate Avery Ellison!
  • Star Bright on Aug. 31, 2012

I was really surprised by how much I was drawn into this story once I started reading it! I kept coming back to it and picking it up, needing to find out what would happen next. Star Bright is full of action, suspense, love, hate, and abuse. The characters are believable and there is something about the book that kept me coming back for more; I really loved that about the book! I felt a lot of sympathy for Maria and you could feel her fear and her emotions well throughout the book. Dave was a great character also and I liked how he showed his priorities in his life. I would have given the book five stars but I had to take off for a couple of things. There were many punctuation errors and grammatical errors and it became bothersome after awhile. Also throughout the book the POV would change without cluing the reader in on it. It would take me a paragraph and a half and then I would have to re-read it to figure out that someone else was talking. Also, I felt that for a YA book talking about affairs is more of an adult romance book subject. Obviously this is just my personal opinion. Other than that the story drew me in until I had finished the last page! (For those who want to know this book does contain moderate cussing) Three and a half stars.
  • A Contemptible Affection on Oct. 24, 2012

I want to preface my review by saying that I have never read a book by Ranee S. Clark. When I started A Contemptible Affection I was immediately transported from my world to Iris's world. It was easy to read this regency story and the writing flowed effortlessly. Although a short story, the characters were well developed, so much that I felt like hitting Iree over the head a few times and telling her to wake up! But alas, women are fickle and have memories that never forget! Iree's journey to find out the true feelings of her heart was a fantastic read that I literally enjoyed every minute of! I can't say that about many books at all! If all of Ranee Clark's books are like this one, then I will be a fan for life! Five stars and I can't wait to get my hands on another of her books! I received this book for free and this is my honest review.
