N.V. Binder

Biography

Hi, I’m Natalie Binder, author of the Redshift books. I was born in New Hampshire in 1985. At the age of 16 I attended Bard College at Simon’s Rock and received an A.A. in liberal arts. After I graduated I spent a year volunteering across America with the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) an AmeriCorps program. When I returned home I got my Bachelor’s degree in political science from Florida State University (FSU). I traveled to Indonesia on a Fulbright scholarship to teach English and American cultural studies to Muslim students. My experiences in public service, travel and teamwork are a huge influence on my writing.

The concept for Redshift came from recent news that scientists had created a real “stasis box” that could take an object out of time for several milliseconds. I wrote a short passage about the experience of waking up in the future, and the first pages of Redshift came together. I’ve been a sci-fi fan for many years; I was inspired by Heinlein, Asimov, The X-Files, ET, Star Trek, Firefly and other science fiction books, movies and stories. I love the sense of excitement and adventure that comes from visiting new times and places.

I have a master’s degree in information science from FSU’s College of Information & Communication. My work as a technology specialist in a public library brought me in contact with new publishing models and channels. Changes in technology and the book market mean that writers don’t need to wait for publishers to gain access to mainstream audiences. I chose to offer Redshift online, at an affordable price, directly to readers and fans. Redshift can be read on your phone, computer or e-reader. If you’re curious how (and if) it all works, subscribe to my blog or contact me with questions.

I hope you enjoy the first Redshift book and look forward to the next installment (Book 2: Surprise, Surprise), coming soon to Amazon Kindle and Smashwords.
