Pleasure Boat Studio

Publisher info

jack Estes is the publisher of this small press. It's been active since 1996, focusing mostly on poetry and fiction. In 2006, two new imprints were added: Caravel Mystery Books and Aequitas Books. Caravel is used primarily for mysteries (obviously) and Aequitas for non-fiction with a sociological or philosophical theme. That same year, a small press from Port Townsend, Washington, was resurrected and started working with Pleasure Boat Studio, as a division. This press, Empty Bowl, focuses on poetry and some prose with strong eco-consciousness. Pleasure Boat Studio is located in New York City, having moved from Bainbridge Island, Washington, in 2002.

This book uses stories, myths and case studies to show something deep in the psyche that resembles a large, primordial animal, whose support of human agendas is not entirely reliable. This irrational part of ourselves finds expression in a multitude of contradictory ways. It is responsible for the miraculous healing of body and soul as well as perpetuating horrifying forms of violence.
