Tim Kornegay

Biography

Tim Kornegay was born in Los Angeles, California in the section currently stamped, or maybe scarred, with the label South Central, an area that’s infamous for gangs, drugs and other criminal enterprises. Although Tim’s early years would be considered inherent with the necessary ingredients for a stable childhood, such as a two hard working parents, Tim chose a path that was anything but stable. By the time Tim was nine years old, he was well on his way to being a product and reflection of the negative environment outside his house. The morals or values his parents tried to instill were no match for the forces dominating the world outside their front door. Those influences acted as supercharged fuel for an already overactive imagination. And, like an out-of-control missile, Tim was launched into the subculture of gangs, drugs, and wholesale violence, then submerged himself in the worst of everything that represented. That choice resulted in Tim spending more years walking the hallways, corridors, and fenced-in yards of juvenile and adult criminal institutions than walking society’s streets as a free person.

During his latest period of incarceration, as a man in his forties and a father, Tim re-examined his life and the path he chose at such an uninformed age. He realized it no longer made sense and never did. Past decisions took on the sour taste of regret. A lack of sympathy or empathy gave way to conscience and the powerful need to change. With no source of rehabilitation available in the California Department of Corrections, no avenue to channel his new seed for change, Tim started writing with the aim of utilizing his overactive imagination, as well as a form of rehabilitation. But writing was more than an escape from the crushing confines of his cage. Writing became a way to free himself from the cultural “prison” of gangs, drugs, crime he’d been in and serving time for since the age of nine.

The Price of Justice is the first of three novels, along with seven screenplays and magazine editorials, resulting from that effort.
