Paolo-Ugo Brusa

Biography

I was born in San Marino (San Marino) in 1950. Father, Arturo (1912-2009), was native of Varese, north of Milan; Mother, Maria Neri (1909-1984), came from Bologna’s countryside. They met and were married in Asmara, Eritrea, 1940. My schoolyears were spent in Rimini, 1958 to 1965, and Bologna, 1966 to 1974. After a doctoral degree in Philosophy from Bologna 'Alma Mater' University in 1974 (the master thesis, mentored by Prof. Luciano Anceschi, dealt with James Joyce’s apprenticeship years), I enrolled as a teacher in San Marino public schools. I have taught Italian, History, and Geography in junior high until 1995, then History and Philosophy in high school, until retirement in 2010. I’m proud to have pioneered, in the early 80’s, the writing of ad hoc computer software to serve as teaching aid for Down children. I’ve got three daughters, Marcella, Marialice, and Matilde, and one granddaughter, little Agata. Only after the millennium year and Matilde’s birth in 2001 did her father find a leading thread, a hilum Ariadneum through his ‘prosophical’ musings, as if he waited for both, her and the millennium, to come around and bring his thoughts together. A short essay (3rd edition) on i) dominant post-philosophical perspectives and their shortcomings; ii) general biography, or the most encompassing view of their condition humans might possibly share; and iii) why proethics are both preternatural and unavoidable for everyone to fulfill their native freedom. After much talk about philosophy's demise, let's try and begin its oldest search anew.
