Hailey Trosclair is an adolescent girl with little supervision. Her mother is in a world of her own after a miscarriage and her father is out of work and spends most of his time at the pool hall. Her brother watches out for her, but moves in rough circles. The New Orleans she lives in is no fairy tale. She faces sex, drugs, violence, betrayal, and death. This is a vivid book with a realistic glimpse into the unsightly neighborhood of poverty.
