I had agreed to review this book after receiving a fun email from the author. I hoped that falling for his personality didn't set my sights too high for his book. Well it did.......NOT.
The first story, Shades of Grey, gets you into the mind of a government agent in the UK. Who has been tied to a chair and is being held captive by an unknown. You get great bursts of imagery in this one and lots of crude language.
The second story, There and Back Again, is about a soldier in the British Army during WWII. Lots of violence and is touching at the same time. Very fitting for the times, I think.
The third and final story, Down the Rabbit Hole, is my favorite. Tom is an abused child who clings to his stuffed toy for comfort. The toy rabbit comes to life to help Tom work things out, but takes a different turn.
All three stories are dark and violent, but not overly so. All were good reads!
This was a really fun read. A lion, an "angel", and dragon...Oh My! Rourke knows what makes a great story. A little action, a dash of romance, pepper with great twists and add lots of snark. Then BAM! Just like Emeril, a cuisine that will sate your YA hunger! I didn't want to put it down. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next with this rag tag team of "super heroes". The pace was just right. Everything moved along nicely. I loved both the main and secondary characters. And what an ending! I cannot wait to read Embrace, the second book in the Gryphon series!
My favorite quotes from The Conduit:
" I mean, you just made and angel cry. I can't say for sure that you'll go to hell for that kind of thing, but it doesn't look good."
"Keep telling yourself that. I'm sure you'll find it very reassuring while you're burning in the eternal hell fires, right next to the puppy kickers."
"Celeste is going to go get herself a boyfriend today."
"The grocery store. They keep them in the meat department right next to the tenderloin."
A new and exciting paranormal series. The premise for this book is very unique along with some other aspects of the story. Hailey works at a dairy farm milking chinchillas! I really like the heroine. She is smart, sassy and full of snark. I found myself smiling and chuckling while reading this book. The Coursodon are "people" from another dimension, and while it doesn't give a lot of back story as to what they really are, I didn't feel like I missed anything. The book flowed really well and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. There is some light romance, but that is not the main focus of the story. There was one or two mistakes in editing, but believe me, it doesn't take away from the story! I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to the next!
A thrilling read. Laine is such a strong heroine. She's smart, brave and good with a gun. I fell in love with her immediately! Lots of heart pounding action. At one point, I thought I had it all figured out, only to be slapped with a great twist I never saw coming. All of the characters were great. I loved the secondary characters just as much as the main characters. Jack was great as Laine's partner in crime/love interest, but I have to admit, Bear is my favorite. I would love to know more about him. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes to read a action or romance!
