Yesterday I read about yet one more dog wrongly killed in a so-called "animal shelter" due to a SNAFU. It immediately brought to mind "Pitbull Nation." Drawing on many years advocacy and activism on behalf of this much maligned breed, Cindy illuminates the problems of the American "shelter system" with passion, conviction and sharp wit. This gives us a sometimes heart-breaking inside look at how animal shelters function and fail the dogs in their care. I laughed. I cried. I completed its reading with a little more hope than when I began, largely because people like Cindy are fighting to tell the truth - and winning - to keep this breed alive.
