Set in New Orleans, we meet sixteen year old Hailey Trosclair and her family. The story is told by Hailey. The father is an alcoholic and unemployed. The mother had a miscarriage and suffers with depression. Her brother Cyrus spends time working on a car and visiting his friend Moses. Moses is an ex-con, planning a drive through church business.
Hailey’s parents are physically there, but don’t engage with each other, or their children. Hailey spends her time in front of the television, going to school, praying to God to help her family, taking care of her mother and father or interacting with Cyrus and his friends.
Chris Tusa does a good job showing how poverty and this dysfunctional family try to navigate life. I would like to thank Mr. Tusa for allowing me the opportunity to meet Hailey Trosclair.
