S.F.(Samuel Franklin) Varney was born in the summer of 1969 in Knoxville, Tennessee and grew up in Southwestern Virginia and the Florida Panhandle. He studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Pensacola Junior College and the University of South Alabama. He illustrated several books, coloring pages and comics and currently writes and illustrates the Karate Dottie series. Sam has five sons and lives with his family in Maryland.
