A well written, definitely dark coming of age story. Very reminiscent of the Bastard Out of Carolina book or the Poker House movie. Both of those, along with this book, give us a good view of how difficult it can be growing up under the most trying conditions. It's not an easy read, but it is one that keeps you turning the pages. Even though I would have liked to know what happened after the story ended, I'd certainly recommend this book.
