This is a real page turner. The smallpox epidemic theme is compelling and appears to be well researched. Her Victorian era characters (Dorian, Dylan, Emma, Edmund, Quinn) are vividly presented and memorable.
Although the wrapper story of ghosts and time travel provides an interesting context, I'm not sure that it is necessary to the period story which can easily stand on its own.
Joyce Freese's The Funeral Home is skillfully crafted, nicely paced, and is highly recommended.
