Biography

I am a lover of both reading and writing. I wish I had more time to do both, but life demands that I have a day job. I have a B.A. in Journalism and Communications, although I haven't worked in the industry for 15 years. I was mainly a radio/tv woman. It was fun being on the crew side, setting up and tearing down for sports games and radio shows. Now I work in a completely different field, but still with the public.

Now that books 1 and 2 of Immortalibus Bella are ready to be released, I am working on book 3, and a stand alone on one of the main characters. I also like to write free form poetry, and am a member of several writing groups. I plan on trying my hand at twisted fairytales next.

Smashwords Interview

What's the story behind your latest book?
A mélange of Fantasy/Paranormal/Post-Apocalyptic.
I've always wondered, what if we had a chance to re-do our world? Would we make the same mistakes, or would we reach a Utopia like state faster.
I added in immortals, of different flavors, who have come full circle in watching civilizations rise and fall. They are in a position to either help or hinder, but by doing so, they risk exposing themselves.
I've tried not to overly romanticize the pre-industrial aspects, as human history for the most part has been brutal, interspersed with moments of advancement.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Cliche time: I've been writing since I was 12. It has always been my dream of being a writer and having my work published. At the time, I was told, get a day job to support yourself with. I took the advice and joined my high school newspaper, then went to college and got a degree in Journalism and Communications. I got side-tracked from the writer aspect when I realized being a newspaper person meant I actually had to go out and talk to strangers, fact check, all the other aspects of the job. So I turned my endeavors to the radio/TV side.
I burnt out on the industry ten years ago, and switched to a new field.
Indie publishing is allowing me to finally reach my childhood dream of seeing my creations in print.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author for her generosity. A great read set in a place not many would think to use. I was a tad hesitant at first about the book, but the first few pages sucked me in. The heroine is feisty, intelligent, and crafty. While she is described as being a concubine, the love/sex angle is downplayed. It’s refreshing for an author to not make it one of the main themes. The tropical/jungle setting, along with the addition of sea dragons and snake people, gives an added bonus. The heroine, Qui Tai, has many layers which are slowly revealed over the course of the story. The descriptions of the world and the people who inhabit it made me feel as if I was there along side them. I am looking forward to reading the second book in the series.
