Mahle Dennis


Melissa Mahle is a former CIA Intelligence officer...a.k.a.spy. She was one of a handful of female operations officers fluent in Arabic, working in the Middle East to keep Americans safe.

Since leaving the CIA in 2002, Melissa has embarked on a new career as an author, Hollywood film advisor and media commentator. Her first book, Denial and Deception: An Insider's View of the CIA from Iran-contra to 9/11, was published in 2005 by Nation Books.

Melissa is active in youth programs at the International Spy Museum in Washington D.C. and has consulted on several spy thrillers. Her recent film credits include, SALT starring Angelina Jolie and Hanna with Saoirse Roman and Cate Blanchett. Melissa was featured in the documentary Secrecy, which opened at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008.

Kathryn Dennis began her career in New York as an advertising art director where she first started putting words and pictures together. Returning to Seattle, she spent several years working for Microsoft designing packaging and marketing materials.

After completing the fiction writing program at the University of Washington, a chance workshop at Hugo House started her journey of writing for children.

She won the 2006 SCBWI Kimberly Colen Grant for her first picture book, as an author/illustrator.
