Stephen Murphy

Biography

On a current tour of Ireland to promote his second book, 'September 2013', Stephen's performances have seen him lauded as 'Bardic' and 'Inspired', winning multiple awards along the way for the quality of his verse. His first book, 'The Sleeping Warrior', is inspired by the mythology of old and the politics of the modern day. His poetry is a mix of an Ireland beyond the romantics of postcards and a philosophy heavily inspired by Oriental thought.

Smashwords Interview

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wasn't aware I was an 'indie' author until the question appeared, but writing's always been something I've done, and e-publishing seems like a great way to share what I do with others who may otherwise never know what I'm doing.
What is your writing process?
I saw an interview before with a writer (though I can't remember who she was) who said that writing for her was like standing out in the middle of a field; She could feel the energy of the art coming over the hills and always thought that if she didn't reach up to write it down it would just keep going looking for somebody else to write it down instead. It's pretty much exactly how I see poetry as an art form, at times it's more a form of energy than the honing of a craft.
