At 15, Zulu boy Nathi finds a photograph under the sand in his village. It is of a young white couple. He is captivated by the beauty of the woman in the photograph and believes this is a sign from the ancestors. Later, he goes to seek work in the city and finds a job as a gardener. When he sees his employer's daughter he is dumbfounded. She looks exactly like the woman in the photograph.

Biography
Stewart Ronen was born and raised in Johannesburg and went to school in Israel. He lived in The Netherlands for 17 years and now resides in Cape Town. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics and Hebrew Literature and a Master’s degree in Russian Literature. (University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg). The Goat Herder is his first novel.
