It's so different from anything else I've read. This comes from a strong narrator, a strong voice, and the story has a wide and arching journey though many different, intertwined bits. It's world-building and soul-crushing and the main character's persona is crystallized through each portal we look through. Well done!

What a wicked and patient tale. The boys are as real as any you've met...and their horror is too. I ached for them...until the end. But I won't ruin that for you!
