A book of action, romance, fantasy, intelligence, and wit! Of North Blood Drawn begins with Magen, an outcast of his society, searching for answers about the past, and questioning his future. He questions his family, and friends, and their cruel treatment of him, and wonders about what will come next, if anything at all. The use of point-of-view is thoroughly effective as it allows the readers to explore the narrative through the eyes of an outcast, a pragmatist, a criminal (well ex-criminal), a woman in love, a young rebel, and some not so bright, but endearing brawny characters! As we get to know the squad, we see their tolerance of each other develop into mutual respect, friendship, and... Well you'll have to read for yourself to find out! Of North Blood Drawn is the perfect mixture of science-fiction, fantasy, wit, and dare I say it... There's some romance thrown in too for good measure. The clever use of footnotes is something I personally enjoyed, encompassing sarcasm, intelligent humor, and some facts too. Watterson does a wonderful job of creating a world in which science-fiction interacts with fantasy in an intelligent manner, using some wit and sarcasm along the way. He creates the squad as a group of people with a engaging group dynamic, but also as a group of unique and interesting individuals. By the end of the book I was definitely left wanting more!!!
