  • Enchantment (The Channie Series Book One) on Nov. 01, 2011
    (no rating)
Enchantment by Charlotte Abel Reading this story it reminded me of young love and the wanting and dreaming of meeting your very own Prince Charming. This is one of those stories that you see the story unfolding and you turn every page to make sure it’s going to happen. The writing is great, easy to read, words flow so you just keep reading till you reach the end. The story begins with Channie (Enchantment) moving to a new city with her family, her father is on the run from a very powerful family, he owes them a huge gambling debt, this family is well known and will not just want money they may even kill Channie’s (Enchantment) family to get revenge on her father. Starting at a new school is hard enough but to be living around non magic humans is a whole other complication. Channie (Enchantment) meets Josh and their amazing almost fairy tale story begins. All I can say is this book is well written its about love, magic, awful parents, dreams, hopes and its touching funny and you just want the best for Channie and Josh. I will be keeping an eye out for a sequel. If you’re looking for a heart warming read this is the book to read. Charlotte Abel is an amazing author/storyteller.

  • Her Dark Destiny (Hunters of the Dark #1) on Nov. 13, 2011

Her Dark Destiny (Hunters of the Dark, #1) by David Ferraro. The first of the series this book starts off with action and adventure. The main character of course is a strong young woman who is a demon hunter, taking a night off from hunting she decides to go out with her best friend to a club to have fun and dance. During the evening she soon realizes fun is not what she was going to have. She ends up in a fight for her life and meets up with two other hunters who help her out in battle. When the night ends she gets more information from the other hunters about The Agency, they have been trying to recruit her to go work for them. Losing her only friend she decides to go and try to work with other hunters to rid the world of evil creatures and not just demons. We see many different types of paranormal creatures in this story; demon’s (many different types), vampires (good ones and bad ones), giants, werewolf’s etc.. So you know this will be an action filled series. Dave Ferraro did an excellent job with this book, with his excellent writing skills he gave us a beginning to each character and you can see many future books in this series (hoping that is). What I really liked is we get to see each characters point of views while he is telling us this story. And of course besides action and adventure there are love interests, young woman meets cute guy, then she meets handsome vampire, and like most women we kind of cheer for the bad boy vampire type. Well at least I do. I know this is a good book because when I finished it I went a purchased Night Cries (Hunters of the Dark #2).
  • The Next Thing I Knew on Dec. 07, 2011

This book starts off with the main character Lucy waking up and realizing that she is dead; it appears she is a ghost. She start to wonder around her house her neighbourhood meets up with a friend who also confirms that yes everyone is dead. The Apocalypse must have happened. In her travels Lucy finds her friends, family members, neighbours and even the boy she has a crush on. With nothing to do, no time limits, no school, iPods, facebook etc. Lucy and her friends start to explore the realm they all appear to be on, but is it heaven or someplace in between? They can move around from their realm to earth to outer space they can pretty much do what they want. In all of their exploring they end up finding small things and realize they need to figure out what happened to cause everyone on earth to die. The story is filled with alien’s, ghosts, space travel, a deadly virus and of course a love story. The Next Thing I Knew is well written and the author adds humour to make it even a better read, I would say this book is more of a YA Science Fiction then a YA Paranormal book. It is a great read and what I really liked about this book is that it was different something new and fresh. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this book, I can see how this story can lead into more books in this series and I can’t wait to see what John Corwin comes out with next.

  • Survival, a YA Paranormal Romance (The Guardians of Vesturon Series, Book #1) on Dec. 16, 2011

Survival, a YA Paranormal Romance (The Guardians of Vesturon Series, Book #1) By A.M. Hargrove Survival like the title says is a YA paranormal romance novel, A.M.Hargrove has excellent writing skills this book is well written, the descriptions were good and not overly done, the character development was well thought out and it helped us know a bit about each person we encounter in the story. I was quite surprised on how much I was enjoying this book; it held my interest so much that I couldn’t stop reading and I ending up reading the whole book in one sitting. I really liked the fact that this book was a bit different from the other paranormal books I’ve read lately, instead of vampires or werewolf’s we were reading about beings from another world. Even though these beings are from another planet and more advance then us humans they are still very human like so it wasn’t as far fetch as you would think. There are some sad parts where I had to find my Kleenex and wipe my tears and then there were parts that I laughed out loud, I like when an author can make you feel actual emotions. A brief overview of this story without giving too much away, I would say this is a story of a young woman who has had to deal with an enormous amount of loss in her life. She is a strong, independent and a heroic character, I love reading about strong independent women. She works through some of her losses and survives and heads to college. She ends up making a few good friends and her life seems to be going well. On a hiking trip during the holidays she ends up getting captured by a very evil man who likes to hunt and kill the women he has taken. Being the survivor she is she plans her escape. Barely surviving this horrific experience she is rescued by a tall handsome mysterious man who helps her recover from her injuries and they both end up feeling a strong connection to each other. Knowing that this cannot happen as they are both from different worlds he walks away. Soon he realizes his mistake and he goes back to find her, she is in the same situation as him she hasn’t been able to forgot him either. But is it possible for the two of them to be together, can she leave the only man she has ever felt safe with? Will the mad man find her again? Will she survive this time? These are all questions you have to go find out by reading this book. I would recommend this book to any of my friends who enjoy the paranormal romance books; I also have to say that I cannot wait for book 2 to be released. In saying that I will admit when I finished the book I emailed the author right away hoping to find out how much longer I had to wait before I could read book 2. She did mention that it won’t be too long.

  • Through the Third Eye; Book 1 of Third Eye Trilogy on Dec. 18, 2011

Through the Third Eye by Lynn Boston This is the first book in the Third Eye Trilogy; I would say this would be classified as Mystery/thriller/Suspense. The story is told in the third person but the main points of view are by the two main characters Shali and Clay. The writing is good, I typically don’t read too many books in this genre as the historical part is not one of my favourites, but it sure did open my eyes to new possibilities. There is a lot going on in this book, past life regression, treasure hunters, mystery, suspense and the historical part of the book ends up fascinating to me. Even though you know this book is fiction the amount of work the author had to research for this book is amazing. Not to write any spoilers I would say briefly this is a book about two people searching for ancient documents and using any means they can to find them. As Treasure Hunters Clay believes this is The Big One....but they are people out there who do not want these ancient documents found, as it could change the world. The book is interesting and a new concept to me I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well thought out suspense/thriller /mystery novel. If you were a fan of books like the Da Vinci Code this book is right up your alley.

  • Mobster's Girl on Sep. 22, 2012

Mobster's Girl by Amy Rachiele So this is the first book I’ve read by Amy Rachiele, her writing was easy to read, plot and character development was well written, and the story flowed really well. I picked up this book this afternoon and finished it in one sitting with a few cups of coffee. Mobster’s Girl is about a young woman name Megan who all the sudden notices Antonio is looking at her. Antonio is tall dark and handsome and a bit dangerous young, he is also from a very well off and powerful family in their neighborhood. The title of this book says it all. Antonio remembers meeting Megan when he was 5 years old and is fascinated with her, but years ago he and his friends were warned by his father not to go near her. But you know what happens when parents tell you not to do something…. They talk ………….and Antonio knows he want Megan to be his. Megan knows her parents won’t approve but that doesn’t stop her, she gets butterflies when he smiles at her. Mobster’s Girl is about romance, coming of age, and finding out sometimes people are not always what they appear. I really enjoyed Megan and Antonio’s love story and cannot wait to read more. I have to thank Amy Rachiele for listing her book in our group We ♥ YA Books, and offering our members copies to review so thank you. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series Awakening the Mobster which I just found out was released 2 weeks ago. I have rated Mobster’s Girl a 4 star rating and if I could I would give 4.5 stars.

  • Blood and Moonlight on Nov. 23, 2012
    (no rating)
Blood and Moonlight by Moira Keith The main character in Blood and Moonlight is Kiara, she is half Fae and half wolf, and she has grown up hiding/ignoring the wolf side of her and keeping a lot of what she feels deep inside hidden away. Being ashamed of part of your self is not easy feat. Kiara’s is plagued by the death of her mother who was killed by wolves and Kiara cannot forget that, all Kiara wants is to find answers to who killed her mother. When Kiara meets Devlin McClure from the local pack he has come to ask her for her help. Of course Kiara cannot stand wolfs and it doesn’t matter that one of the missing pack members happens to be her father. At first Kiara does not offer to help and why should she help find father he left her and her mom alone a long time ago. Changing her mind Kiara and Devlin head out to solve the mystery of missing pack members and her father. Besides the mystery that unfolds so does the romance and tension between Devlin and Kiara. Kiara at first has every excuse why they should not allow anything to happen between herself and Devlin but he is irresistible and hot and smells so good. Kiara and Devlin do not have an easy road ahead of them and both being such strong independent people they can’t even see what is right before their eyes …..that they are fated to be with each other. Blood and Moonlight is a well written novel, I really liked that Kiara is part Fae and Wolf this is something you don’t read too much, I liked that it was different from other PNR reads. The novel was easy to read, has a lot of interesting character’s and the romance between Kiara and Devlin is exciting and you feel the tension building between them. There is so much more to this story the history of Kiara’s family, her tattoos and even Devlin comes from a strong and power background. This is a must read. Moira Keith has done an excellent job and her writing is good, I cannot wait to read more of Moira writings. I would recommend Blood and Moonlight to anyone who enjoys Paranormal Romance/Mystery and a touch of Fantasy to pick up this novel. I have rated Blood and Moonlight a 4 star rating and cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
