Broken Publications

Publisher info

The way book publishing should be: collaborative, creative, communicative.

My favorite word is Broken. In fact, I love this word so much that I named my publishing company Broken Publications. The logo is a broken heart.... but the reason for this decision wasn't to be depressing. It was because there's a certain beauty in something broken, something imperfect. You have to be able to duct-tape and safety-pin yourself back together after you've been broken... and anyone who says they haven't ever been broken is probably lying. The strongest and purest beauty comes after you've dragged yourself out of the ugliest part of your life.

We want to bring the beauty of imperfection to surface. There is a certain shimmer within the cracks of life, be it learning, growing up, or growing wiser. This is the shimmer that we want to expose and allow people to appreciate, even if the mask has to be torn in order to accomplish this. It's that small bit of light that needs to shine through the cracks in our lives.

As an independent publisher offering non-exclusive contracts and collaborative creative control between author and publisher, we aim to introduce a new way of publishing while maintaining our focus on what matters: the message and the creators of it.

Founded in 2010 by Jennifer-Crystal "Jen" Johnson, working with Broken Publications is a personable and unique experience. We offer services for a fee as well as non-exclusive contracts for a share of royalties. The royalty rate for authors is at 40% net royalties, way above and beyond the industry standard. Because we use print on demand technology, we save on printing costs. Because we contract work to other telecommuting workers, we save on office space and utilities, not to mention the outrageous gas prices.

If you'd like to see what Broken Publications can do for you, feel free to contact us & submit a query. Let's get some amazing work published!

Once I got past my OCD tendencies when it comes to reading, I enjoyed the story a great deal. This horror novel is definitely unique, with a unique set of characters as well as an interesting - and often surprising - plot. Kevin definitely takes his readers on a journey with his novel; a dark journey through the lives of several characters who are all connected. Having said that, I'd like to go on to say that the spelling and grammar left a lot to be desired and made the book more difficult for me to read. Hiring a professional editor would help out a great deal with this novel and make it easier to read. The book cover should communicate a piece of the plot somehow - right now it's pretty nondescript, which is a little disappointing. I went by the description, which is what ultimately had me wanting to read the book. Overall, it's a great story and a fun book to read. I won't nitpick =). I loved how the events progressed throughout and how the characters developed, and especially that you could - as the reader - understand what the characters were going through. Great job! I hope to read more from this author in the future.

This is an amazing example of a literary version of "found film" horror movies. From the very first page, the book draws you in and you can't help but continue reading as details are revealed and events documented by Dr. Armstrong. Geoff Gander does a fantastic job of delivering a suspenseful thriller without a lot of blood, gore, and violence. It really makes you wonder: what else is out there in the world that we don't know about? After all... We don't know what we don't know. I highly recommend this book. It's an engrossing read and does not disappoint! Review by Jennifer-Crystal Johnson Broken Publications Original review at www.SoulVomit.com

I absolutely LOVED reading this book. I loved it so much that I literally read it all in one sitting. It's got everything that a good, creepy horror novel should have: suspense, death, fear, and mystery. I was really able to immerse myself in the characters and events of this novel, and I definitely recommend that any and all horror and thriller fans check out this book. It is absolutely awesome reading! Even though it's great horror, it isn't gory or distasteful; it is presented well and there's enough going on to keep even my attention. Great work, Sara - I look forward to further books from you! Jennifer-Crystal Johnson Original review at www.SoulVomit.com
