Venture is a young man that is bonded to Master Grand Fieldstone. He has grown up with Fieldstone's daugher, Jade. Venture is being educated by Jade's grandmother. His ambition and energy tend to get him into some binds. Venture is quick to defend and protect Jade sometimes getting himself into more difficulties than he knows how to get out of. At Grant's bidding, Venture is enrolled in Beamer's Center for the fighting arts. The story follows Venture through his training at Beamer's including working with his trainer Earnest, the growing friendship with Lance, and the constant bullying by Colt. Through it all, Venture is learning how to channel his anger and frustrations through his fighting. Venture's greatest obstacle is that he is a bonded man, therefore, he does not enjoy the same "freedoms" or privileges as the other youth of the center. Venture must overcome the scrutiny of not only the Crested society, but that of his own brother who is looking out for the best interest of his younger brother. This is a well written story full of an interesting plot and several underlying subplots. The conflicts that the main character must overcome provide an interesting story for the reader. However, the setting and the understanding of the fighting society seem to leave this reader confused and somewhat lost at times. The time period and facilities available to the people seem to lack clarity. Overall, this is an enjoyable read and I am looking forward to reading Venture Unleashed next.
