I grew up in Almont, Michigan, lived in North Carolina for a short time and now I live in Oceanside, California. I served much of my youth in a multitude of houses in the little town of Almont in the Southern Thumb, including a big, airy farmhouse five miles out of town. We didn't have running water, and a small wood-stove that barely warmed our big country kitchen was all that heated us throughout the long, cold winters.
Between college semesters I worked in a gray iron foundry pouring molten iron, molding forms, shifting weights and stocking a cupola, very dirty work! I have been a carpenter, and I spent two years in Grafenwöhr, Germany while serving a three year tour in the US Army. I have written for daily newspapers in Michigan and California, and worked for many productive years for the USPS. The good fortune of these life-long moves and occupations has been the opportunity to study and absorb the diverse cross-section of society I have stumbled across. Overall, I feel my journeys have taught me well, well enough to know there is always more, much more to learn.
