Very good character study, with just enough use of setting to make me understand the world without getting bogged down in the details. There's a nice mix of dark humor and sadness, and the ways things play out is very realistic, I think. Definitely glad I read it!

I can't say I loved the stories in this issue, but that might be more in terms of me as a reader. I felt like they weren't as fleshed out as they could have been and the concepts were harder SF than I like to read generally. Definitely worth giving a try, though, to see if they are more to your liking.

This is definitely a YA book, with a protagonist that is a typical kid who is bored out of his mind and has terrible dreams about a land that his grandfather told him about as a child. But is that land more real than it seems? I liked the story a lot, as the characters were very compelling and that's a big thing for me. There are, however, a few clunky moments and it has a rather unfortunate infodump towards the end. But I overall, I enjoyed it and will be getting book two. Definitely worth grabbing if you like YA stories with a strong sense of fantasy and growing up.

This is a solid if short mixture of fiction and non-fiction and things that don't quite fit into either definition by an author I'd definitely read again. The stories are short, with solid dialog in the fiction sections and some nice experimentation with words that shows Maistros' comfort with language. The non-fiction pieces capture what it's like to live in a city that you love but also are extremely frustrated with because of problems that seem unsolvable. Definitely worth checking out.
