Amod Puranik

Biography

Hello! I am an engineer by education, military officer by profession, traveler and writer by spirit. I love web programming and also read in my leisure time. I (along with my family) have traveled to more than 30 destinations across the globe. So, I married the twin passions of traveling and writing to produce my blog and book on traveling. I hope you like my website and my books.

Smashwords Interview

What are your five favorite books, and why?
1. Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell. This book forces us to question our assumption that merit results in success and there are other factors in play - you already guessed hard work, right...but 10,000 hours? Read this one.
2. Emotional Intelligence, by Daniel Goleman. I read this book when we were blessed by a child. Yep, it also helps in parenting...
3. Arthashastra, by Kautilya. A detailed manual rather than a book on statecraft, economic policy and strategy.
4. The Count of Monte Cristo. One of my childhood favorites - who does not like to get a boatload of treasure?!
5. Catch-22, by Joseph Heller. A satire aimed at bureaucratic practices of US military...but is true for most government departments. The writing though humorous can also make you angry at the bumbledom.
What do you read for pleasure?
I go to the library (yes!) and simply browse through the volumes till I pick up something about mythology, ancient world history, and business / economics. I also like to read blogs on traveling.
