Christopher Truscott

Biography

The formal "about me" deal:

Christopher Truscott is a former journalist who now occasionally works as a political strategist. He's a veteran of two dozen local, state and federal campaigns over the last 10 years. When he's not obsessing about politics, he can usually be found watching the Minnesota Twins or telling people about his cats, Benny and Boo. He lives in a suburb of St. Paul, Minn., and can be reached by e-mail at chris.truscott@gmail.com. You can also follow him on Twitter at www.twitter.com/christruscott.

The less "official" style:

I got the idea for writing my first book from my experience working on campaigns. While the work is fiction, the inspiration comes from those inevitable moments where things go wrong and you wish, as a press secretary/communications director, that candidates can be programmed to perform like computers. I simply took those feelings, created over-the-top disasters and, presto, you get what you see here.

I wrote "Stumbling Forward" in the summer of 2009 and spent various parts of the next 14 months editing it, while also preparing two more stories that bring back many of the same characters. Alex Hogan, my fictitious candidate for Congress also returns, but the main candidate characters in the future books are far more qualified and likeable than he was in this.

Before getting into campaign work, I covered politics for newspapers in Virginia and Minnesota. At some point I might do a novel from the perspective of a journalist, but for now I'm content to continue focusing on the campaign side of things. I'm also kicking around an idea for an un-related short story that I'd like to publish early next year.

For now, here's the next novel:

A Referendum on Conscience
Coming in the Spring of 2011

U.S. Sen. Rebecca McElroy has just a year left in office and is ready to retire and return home to Minnesota. Then terrorists launch a devastating attack against Washington and the iconic liberal is confronted with the harsh reality that simply voting against a military response isn't enough. "Lame ducks don't stop wars," her top political adviser tells her, and that's exactly what she wants to do.

Clarissa Rogers, Carter Jennings and Holly Schaffer return and attempt to find new meaning in politics while helping McElroy wage the toughest and most-important fight of her political career.
