About the author

Valerie is originally from the beautiful state of Maine, where she lived until she was ten. Being young when she lived there she never appreciated the absolute beauty of the rocky coastline. Although she never live in Camden, she did have a very dear cousin that lived there and they would spend many hours in downtown Camden. When she decided to write For the Sake of Amelia she tried to imagine a great setting for the book. she thought of many places in Connecticut (where she reside now) but kept going back to her childhood and the many fond memories she held in her mind of Camden.

This novel is based on a true story. Warning the flashback scenes contain vivid mental, physical and sexual content against a child. The victim allowed me to write this novella only after I agreed to write the scenes as they occurred. The dialogue leading to the victim’s flashbacks are products of my imagination, however the flashback memories are the victim’s.

Smashwords book reviews by Valerie Bowen

  • Angel of Death: A Short Story (Thomas Lord of Death) on July 10, 2012

First I would like to state I did receive a free copy of this through a coupon code. I would also like to state the author did not request my review, i do this out of respect for authors. K. W. McCabe's Angel of Death is a continuation of one of her short stories titled "Choices". I suggest, although it's not required, to read Choices prior to Angel of Death. The short story Choices sets the background for the main character Thomas. With that said, I'll get into the novel Angel of Death... On his quest for a pure soul to take his place Thomas has again found himself in a dilemma. Knowing the only escape from his eternal blight he must make a decision to adopt the game of choice or to leave the a pure soul alone to go into the light. As the story progresses Thomas' inner turmoil tears him apart when he is tossed headlong into a decision he can not rightfully make. Can Thomas do the right thing or will a twist of fate change the rules of the game? Ms. McCabe has written a winner! A real page turner. Your desire to see Thomas pulled from the shadow of darkness will keep you wondering what happens next. My only gripe about this novelette is it ended far too soon. Valerie Bowen Author of For the Sake of Amelia series and The Mind of a Madman series.
  • D.N.A. -Nothing Would Ever be the Same on Sep. 10, 2012

Ey Wade's D.N.A. pulls you into the cruel word of teenagers and the ridicule one lonely girl faces at the hands of her classmates. After hearing the news of her family's deaths, Debney Nicole Armstrong is left to pull the pieces of her shattered life into perspective and somehow go on living. Teen pregnancy was just one of the many hurdles this young woman had to endure and endure she did. Although faced with the dilemma of being the "Party Favor" Debney is faced to raise her child alone. It's not until she realizes who her true friends area and what they are willing to do to help her get over the devastation life has tossed her way. I just wish things could end this happy for all teens that are faced with the hurdles Ms. Wade's character had to face. She demonstrates inner strength and self respect can conquer the most arrogant. Ms Wade pushes the reader into the unforgiving world of teens and the bullying that surround our children on a daily basis.
  • The Dragon's Call on Oct. 11, 2012

First I want to state, I have not been paid do review this novel nor am I family or friend. With that said, K. W. McCabe gave me a copy of The Dragon's Call in return for my honest review. Although I'm not a huge fantasy fan, I have to admit Ms. McCade pulled me into her fantasy world with a story of love vs. hate. The tapestry was woven in a way that made the reader want to keep reading as the scenes unfolded. Few young adult novels have kept my attention long enough to finish the novel without the dreaded "I hate this". Not once during this unique tale did the author fail to hold my interest. Cecily and Derek have a love that binds the dragon world to the human world. The author flawlessly drags you in and has you routing for Derek in Cecily's time of need. Hat's off to Ms. McCabe...I look forward to reading the sequel to find out what happens in this one of a kind fantasy. I gave this novel 5 stars
