Maryann Anglim, R.N., B.S.N. lived in Bath, Maine. A graduate of Loyola University of Chicago, she worked as an operating room nurse. As Kara's mother she brought an intimate and medically informed view of what it means as a parent to confront Long QT syndrome. In her open and direct writing style she chronicled her daughter's brush with death and subsequent rehabilitation with sensitivity, courage and wisdom. Maryann passed away in 2018. This site is maintained by her co-author, Walter C. Allan, MD.
Kara Mia is the story of sudden loss and slow recovery in a teenager with Long QT syndrome - a genetic cause of an often fatal heart rhythm disturbance. Told by her mother and her physician the book combines the unique insights of both as Kara slowly recovers from a near fatal cardiac arrest.
