A Crack in the Line is volume 1 of The Aldous Lexicon. The ‘crack’ refers to a fault in a railway line which caused an accident in which a mother died in one reality but survived in another. The novel shows how the family has fared in two very different ways since the accident, and what happens when the son in one reality meets his female counterpart in the other.

Biography
Since 1995 the author has published more than forty books for children and young adults, plus a number of stories and a personal memoir (Milking the Novelty: a tale of two cities and one madhouse) about his days as a photographer in London, Paris and at a Butlin's holiday camp. He has also written for radio, and his story Young Dracula was the inspiration for two 14 episode BBC-TV series.
