Caste is a relic of dark ages. It did not evolve into a modernized version in the natural course of events as the people of India were not the real custodians of Indian society, having been under foreign rule for many years and those rulers finding great use in caste. Look at males of any species. It is not difficult to see that the areas they monopolize are, invariably, careless attitude, unprofessional approach or aggressive behavior. Still, it is the male that rules all. How? Why? The answer to these questions surprisingly is the answer to all that is happening in the world. And the violent nature of many of our societies owes to nothing else but this.

  • I Think Therefore I Am a Machine on June 21, 2022

I Think, therefore I Am a Machine by Yoram Har-Lev The book began with a apt thought, '..failures are, more due to the inability to presuppose the others' reactions'. It then went on to discuss the human mechanisms behind thinking and opinions. Next chapter analyzed the community's role in all this, with religions taking the prime shot. How it introduces a non-linearity in our affairs, and colors our reaction. We think freely, but end up providing a response that is always a modulated one, religion being the most significant regulator. I agree, this is quite in line with the working of a machine. I liked the thesis of this book: humans are just sophisticated machines with an organic computer called brain. Naturally, there is no room for other incomprehensible entities like soul, whose actions cannot be anticipated. Therefore we can estimate the thoughts, feelings, and reactions, if we can collect sufficient data. Machines are not mysterious beings and can be understood. But, we are not able to do it, since we are living in a group. Here, many a time we need to suppress inconvenient facets and invent convenient ones. Consequently we see the real physical world through filters that suit the machines in us.
  • The Moral Libertarian Perspective on July 23, 2022

'The Moral Libertarian Perspective' By TaraElla opened up a few fresh thoughts in me. I agree, back in eighteenth or nineteenth centuries when libertarians became a force to be reckoned with, these was no 'big business'. The tyrannies they felt were always coming from governments of the times. And countering it, they could manage with a few ideas here and there, including a few related to restructuring the governments. But now, in this era, we are using the same ideas against the tyrannies of today, most of which originate out of conglomerates. Not only that those ideas fail to stop it, but also affect the productivity of business, something of concern to all. Also, presently, no state is able to address moral issues in an appropriate way, since they all resort to a collective response. Naturally, this leads to unsavoury results. Morality, being an individual attribute, needs treatment also of such a genre. For this, we need to come up with appropriate designs, both for the structure of the state and its government. Good read, indeed
  • Are Men the Weaker Sex? on July 27, 2023

This is an interesting book. It rightly mentions women as more faithful in relationships, sees women more often with self control, and credit women with better manners. The difference between men and women, the book correctly points out, is that when boys are abused, they often grow up to be abusers, while when girls are abused, they often grow up to be abused themselves. Some observations may be controversial, like, men are not strong enough to be faithful. The book also peeps into the double standards society has, like an imposing woman is called a troublemaker while such a man is called assertive. And why is society like this?, the book then asks. "It can be traced back to the origins of the human race", it comes up with an answer. Here I disagree. The popular vision of a weaker female sex coupled with a role of greater responsibility, the male had to face while formation of the initial human societies, is the reason, says the book. Which, like all the other books on such topics, presents and strengthens a popular idea without a real proof. Except for a few minor comments like this, I am in agreement with the author. Who can disagree, when the book says "one of the reasons there is sexism/misogyny is because women are the stronger sex - even though we've been told repeatedly, throughout history, that women are the weaker sex. And a lot of men are often jealous of, threatened by, and even have a hatred for women because of this."
