The Mating (The original Law of the Lycans story)
on March 22, 2012
Downloaded this book on iBooks and I couldn't put it down! Well written, with a strong, likeable hero and heroine and a super bitchy villain. The characters were nicely developed and so was the werewolf background and premise. I highly recommend this and the other books in Nicky Charles' Law of the Lycan Series.
Book 1: The Mating - Kane & Elise
Book 2: The Keeping - Ryne & Melody
Book 3: The Finding - Brian & Cassandra
Book 4: Bonded - Reno & Brandi
*Bonded is not exactly following the previous 3 books, but still related
The Keeping is the second book in Nicky Charles' Law of the Lycans series, following The Mating and tells the story of Ryne, Kane's half brother. I enjoyed the story of Ryne and Melody, but not as much as I enjoyed the first book. The characters are nicely developed but I felt like the subplot took away from the main romance and it was a bit hard for me to believe that they had fallen in love. But that's just me! Still a very good book and a solid installment in this very enjoyable series.
Not my cup of tea. Story is slow to begin and formatting is horrible. Too many unnecessary exclamation points and it makes all the characters seem perpetually excited! all! the! time!!
I got through the first 60 pages and skipped to end. Story involves drugs and rape. Didn't like the ending either. I think I prefer stories with a little more emotion, this just came off as a bit impersonal for erotica/romance.
very well written suspense story with a romantic subplot. plenty of good twists and turns and nicely developed characters. sometimes i did roll my eyes at the density of the hero/heroine but if everything came together smoothly, there would be no story!
the suspense/mystery aspect of the story is the main plot, the romance is a nice G-rated subplot throughout the entire story.
another amazing addition in e kelly's choosing love series. well written storyline with strong, well-developed characters that feel genuine that they're falling in love. made my heart melt. can't wait for the next book in the series!
great read! well developed characters with well thought out backstories and personal struggles. very believable romance, with cute moments and steamy scenes. sometimes the characters were a little obtuse, with misunderstandings that could have been avoided but i could say that about almost every romance out there!
Great story! Very well written and well edited story with a twist of fantasy. Unlike some fantasy stories I've read, the names are not too difficult to pronounce or keep track of. Light on the steamy scenes but still, a very cute love story between the hero and heroine. Highly recommend!
Very enjoyable! Well written and developed characters. Like most stories with a secondary romance, I tend to like the secondary characters more and wish for THEIR happiness instead! And yep, I did end up ling Troy and Felicia more than Dean and Kelly. I think it's because I didn't really like Dean all that much. Sure, he had emotional damage, but it seemed a bit forced and it could have been explained better. And seeing that he is the founder of his own biogenetics company, you'd think he was smart enough to realize his own feelings!
From the beginning pages, I understand that this book is the first of a trilogy but I don't think I'll be reading the rest. There's very little character development and practically NO development on the main male character. Basically the story reads as boy meets girl, boy kidnaps girl, boy and girl have lots of sex with some paranormal dangers thrown in on the side.
Very, very well written. Grammar and editing are excellent, which I completely appreciate!
The plotline is very well written, with unexpected twists and turns. The secondary characters are well developed as well as the hero and heroine. The main couple are not without their flaws, but very realistically, they struggle to work through them in order to be together.
The only thing I would complain about is that the ending seemed a bit unresolved and it seemed to wrap up a bit too neatly for me. Otherwise, I do highly recommend this story! It reminds me of J.D. Robb's work, one of my favorite authors (and yes, I know J.D. Robb is Nora Roberts)
Very good read! Minor spelling/grammar/editing mistakes. I do wish there was more white space in between the lines of text, but that's just my preference.
Great story involving all sorts of paranormal and fantasy beings: weres, witches, vampires, fae, gods, goddesses and deities. I liked the two protagonists although I did think their romance blossomed a bit too fast to be realistic. Loved the secondary romance as well. Would thoroughly enjoy seeing this world expanded into more books.
Pretty good! Bell has created a great sci-fi world that I would love to explore and know more about. Unfortunately for me, the heroine started to get on my nerves a little. I like to see strong female protagonists so Ariel was not as strong as I would have preferred. Hatch, the male protagonist, is a bit two-dimensional but I still found the story enjoyable.
Epic. This story is long (297 pages in PDF!) but is written with such richness and it's such a grand and sweeping adventure. Minor spelling and grammar articles that don't distract too much from the story. Highly recommend!
Enjoyed this very much! Loved the world of rebellion and evil ruler/emperor that was put forth. The hero and heroine were likeable and strong and their romance was very sweet and realistically entwined with the events happening. Good length, highly recommend.
Cute, enjoyable story with a few steamy sex scenes. The plot and dialogue tend to skew a bit melodramatic at times, but the story is set in Vegas, so I guess a little stretching of the imagination is acceptable.
Very well written! I've read some of Tara Janzen's full length Steele Street books before and really enjoyed her style of writing. She has a talent for creating well developed, strong likeable characters with a plot that is interesting but still plausible that the two protagonists would still fall for each other. Highly recommend!
Very good! Surprisingly modern at times, which is quite enjoyable! No weird medieval language that would detract from the story. Steamy scenes and true love with swordfighting and a touch of paranormal.
I didn't like the story as much as her Choosing Love series, which I HIGHLY recommend. The hero and heroine are very sweet together, and I can believe the feelings between them and how quickly they grew as well. I just wished for more suspense and danger! It could've been (in my opinion) more fleshed out from that persepctive. Also, the cover art is slightly weird...
Solid story, all in all. Can't wait for the 3rd installment in the Choosing Love series, which I hope is coming soon!
i downloaded this through ibooks and it was 1100+ (tiny iphone sized) pages long! i actually ended up with a headache after finishing it because i had stared so long at my phone. BUT this is a great story!! at first i was a bit wary of the college setting but the characters are not immature or juvenile. great character development and plot twists, highly recommend~!
Solid story, although a bit saccharine at times. I had several moments of eye rolling at certain parts of the dialogue. I agree with hrhsophia's review about the lack of sex scenes - maybe its just me and my dirty mind, but I felt like the story would've been better with some spice added! Great description and development of the characters of the charming town of Keeneston. Word of warning - the story ends in a way that you have to buy the 2nd and 3rd books in the series to find out what happens!
This was probably my favorite of the trilogy. I love Mo and Dani and I felt like the dialogue was less cheesy and eye roll inducing. I also liked the characters more! Again with the no sex scenes :( But the ending really makes you buy the 3rd (and final) book of the trilogy!
The trilogy finally comes to an end! I must say, I love the three Rose sisters, they are absolutely great throughout the 3 stories. Paige's story was still good, suspense-wise but I think the bitchy arch-nemesis Kandi was a bit cliche and insanely annoying (which was probably her purpose)
Loved it! GREAT characters! Strong, independent and spunky female and strong, sexy and successful male. What more could you ask for?? The story is also very good, nicely developed, not too cliche or overwrought. Has some spice as well and just a great ending :)
3.5 stars. Sentences are a bit short so the writing doesn't flow as well as it could. Minor spelling errors. Sometimes the dialogue is a bit too projecting - it's like the characters are saying aloud their private thoughts.
Good story, if a bit simple and predictable.
So good!!! I was NOT disappointed by the 2nd installation in Morgan Rayne's Spring Towers series! Sweet yet sexy with a great backstory and lovely characters. Can't wait to read Vicki and Coop's story!
Very very good story! GREAT main characters with lots of heat and sizzle between them! Extremely well written story, with a healthy amount of danger and good pacing. Highly recommend and can't wait to read more of her work!
Excellent read! Great start to a new series? trilogy? Strong female character, the beginnings of a love triangle (which reminds me a bit of the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton) and I love the paranormal/supernatural elements thrown in. Can't wait to read the next one!
Imprint by Pippa Jay – Tevik & Jiona.
Loved this story! Characters were well developed in the short length and packed with action, some romance and heat.
Allure by Amy Laurens – Sara & Ash.
Didn’t like this one as much. Super short, story never got a chance to develop and felt more like a prologue to another story.
Nobody’s Present by Marcella Burnard. Finlay & Trygg.
Well written story. Plot moves along nicely but the romance comes second behind plot development. Still enjoyable and wish we could’ve seen Finlay & Trygg together more!
The Stranger by Kyndra Hatch. Nolyra & Jack.
Short and sweet. Would have loved to see this world developed in a longer story!
Mission: Nam Selan by Linnea Sinclair. Tasha & Branden.
Confusing! The author does have a note in the beginning that this short story is related to some of her other works but as a reader who is unfamiliar with those works, I was very confused! Too many names introduced too quickly and I couldn’t keep track.
Prime Sensations by Liana Brooks. Kaleb & Lana.
Very good! Fantastically described world and great characters. Hope there’s more stories to come!
Envy’s Revenge by Berinn Rae. Envy & Hunter.
Whiskey & Starshine by Erica Hayes. Allie & Jericho.
Well written, sci-fi western style.
First story was good, but too short! Second one was my favorite and I loved the free preview at the end. I didn't even finish the third one as it didn't really grab my attention - I just skimmed and skipped to the end.
Part 2 of Damon and Jemma's story - just as hot and steamy as the first part, but with more easter eggs dropped by the author that makes the reader super curious about Damon's back story! Hope to see a part 3!
Excellent story! Two very strong and well written characters who are broken in their own ways finally learn to love one another amid a sudden danger that has cropped up in their lives. There is a bit of suspension of belief you have to do in order to get into the story, but hey, it's romantic suspense! Recommended!
Great story. But I've never read a story involving two more frustrating and stubborn characters! There were times where I had to stop reading just because it was giving me a headache to watch these two try to work out their issues. But otherwise, very well-written story!
