Jaylin Tenfold

Not a writer (though I've tried), but an enthusiastic reader. I like to browse the free books on this site and review the ones I finish.

Excuse the state of my Twitter account; I have another one that's more private and tend to forget this one exists. I'm only including it here in the hope that I'll get it up and running again sooner or later.

For a free book, this one definitely deserves 5 stars. It's not quite as well-polished as something you'd pick up in a bookstore, but it gets close (I've seen MUCH worse on this site) and the story is wonderful. Kudos for having a wheelchair-using female character who can hold her own. My one point of criticism is that I thought Phyre lacked personality, but then maybe I've been spoiled by my favourite book series, in which the animal sidekick is downright snarky. She's absolutely adorable, though.

I have read the three parts that are free and am considering paying for the rest, too. This story is definitely captivating and very well-written, though as others have said before me, it can be rather long-winded at times. I'm still giving it five stars because that's not something I personally mind in a book, especially one I didn't have to pay for ... but I'm hoping the remaining volumes will be a little more exciting. It's only to be expected considering how Part 3 went - the plot has finally begun to thicken, so to speak.

I enjoyed this book, though I found the romance a little too sappy. It progressed from first meeting to perfection so fast that I soon felt as though I were reading the story of an established couple who'd met years ago and whose occasional moments of insecurity about their relationship seemed almost laughable because it was so obvious they were made for each other. I'm aware that getting insecure is a thing people do, especially teenagers, but it added nothing to the plot since any uncertainty was always cleared up immediately. Other than that, it was a good read. I'm not sure I want to pay $4 for the sequel, but - as a note to potential new readers checking out the review section - this first book works well enough on its own, so don't be afraid to give it a shot. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger. :)

While the story had me on the edge of my seat, I was disappointed in the grammar of this book. I expected it to be at least as good as that of its free predecessor, if not better, since after all I had payed for it. Instead it was worse. The epub file also has formatting issues. Nevertheless, I am hooked. I will buy the next book and hope for the best.
