Her copy of Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables, and indeed all of Montgomery's works became Anne's treasured friends. The author's first novel, Lavender Village, is set in East Sussex and is a tribute to her English ancestry - the Howards. On a trip to the island of Skye, set in the Hebrides, she thought it fitting to write another novel The Mists of Afar, in remembrance of her Graham and Bruce lineage.
