When Roth, an Interpol expert becomes involved in the counterfeiting of English banknotes he knows the forger he's chasing may as well be a ghost. The case spreads its tendrils to Paris where Roth works and enjoys a life of privilege among the rich and powerful but when a specimen of the rare two cent Hawaiian Missionary stamp goes up for auction the bodies accumulate and Roth himself is a target.
