Tamsen de Asphodel watched as her parents were killed—murdered by her sorcerer uncle. Raised by her Elven kin, Tamsen knows her destiny is to avenge them both.
Unfortunately, Tamsen’s destiny is complicated. She is the sole heir to her human father’s estate, but she is also the last remaining heir to the Elven throne.
Tamsen and Brial are following a trail of clues laid down for them by the goddess, all the while looking for a way to track down her treacherous uncle Spesialle. When their quest takes them to the fabled Sanctuary of Orios, Tamsen must not only defeat a monster out of legend, but sacrifice the only thing that can buy the redemption of the Elves.
If she is strong enough.
The game of the gods is speeding up, and when Tamsen and Brial find a long-lost civilization of Elves, the pattern of the gods' game starts to become clearer. After a new magic evens up the odds of the foreordained battle, Tamsen begins to feel confident—until a lethal and forbidden possibility tempts her from her path.
Sometimes magic isn't the weapon of the mage. Sometimes the mage is the weapon of the magic.
Tamsen is now the Elven Queen, and a dreadful responsibility has fallen upon her. She must build the greatest army the seven kingdoms have ever known, and return to the blood-plains of fabled Ilia to fight the war the Elves once refused to join.
