The Fantastic Adventures of Alex Shrine [Series description]. Alex Shrine comes into contact with beings from another dimension and discovers that he has a gene inherited from a distant ancestor. Only a handful of beings in the entire cosmos have a similar gene which enables them to have contact with mysterious forces. A thinking universe is manipulating events to protect itself from destruction and enlists those with the gene, including Alex, who is developing incredible abilities, to engage in battle with a race of malevolent sorcerers, called Sorcrons. Alex joins his new found friends and embarks on a series of dangerous adventures that take him across time and space and into parallel dimensions and bizarre alternate realities.
