For a time post-WW II the turbo-prop was the favored machine by the airlines for their internal short flight routes in the USA and in Europe for regional carriers but then the regional jet arrived and for a while the turbo-prop was not in favour but there was a second generation of turbo-props that did find favour and many of these machines remain in use in the new millennium.
