Cliff Allison is an important figure in Formula 1 and sports cars despite having an abbreviated racing career. He began racing Cooper Formula 3 cars at Charterhall, Scotland in 1952. It took three years to gain the attention of Lotus boss Colin Chapman. By 1958 he joined Lotus as Graham Hill's teammate. In 1959 Cliff was recruited as a factory works driver by Enzo Ferrari. He drove F1 until 1961.

Marshall Teague was killed at Daytona International Motor Speedway in 1959 while testing an Indy type car built in Terre Haute, Indiana. NASCAR President Bill France used Teague's trial run to gain publicity. The car began veering, crashed and broke in pieces that scattered as far apart as five football fields. Teague was clocked as fast as 160 on the last lap he completed before he crashed.

My e-book was researched from Associated Press clippings of races that Fred Lorenzen competed in during the 1960s. Lorenzen, from Elmhurst, Illinois, was a different type of driver than the good ol boys on the NASCAR circuit. Racing weighed on his nerves and he later retired because of an ulcer. His dominance of supers speedway races was phenomenal. He retired in 1967 and became a crew chief.

Tiny Lund was most successful as a driver in NASCAR's Grand American Series. He won 41 races overall as a driver in this division. In four different years Tiny won the Grand American Series overall title. His Grand National Division cars were largely underfunded although he drove for some elite owners like Bud Moore, Buck Baker and Lee Petty. Lund was killed tragically in a 1975 race at Talladega.
