The Getchells and The Betty O'Neal
by Edward Slagle
The Betty O’Neal Mine was discovered in 1877, incorporated in California twelve years later, and taken to patent in 1892. Lysander Getchell was the first to recognize the full potential of the mine. After his death in 1918 his son Noble became the general manager for the mine, and developed the Betty O’Neal into the largest producer of silver in Nevada throughout most of the 1920s.
