Williy Mairesse drove a works Ferrari as a sports car racer and Formula 1 driver beginning in 1960. He sustained injuries in a wreck at the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans, France in 1968. Race observers believe the severity of his injuries may have caused his suicide the following year. Mairesse ended his life in an Osten Belgium hotel room.
