Standard Airlines flew between New York and Los Angeles on unscheduled flights in the late 1940s. These flights appealed to any consumers for their discount rates. Among the passengers who died on the SAL C-46 was an Air Force private on furlough to L.A. An in flight altercation between two passengers may have inadvertently caused the plane to crash.

The L-188C was on its way to Miami from Chicago when it crashed in a field in Indiana. The flaw that prompted the Indiana crash and several more like it had to do with the Electra's wings and vibrations sent throughout the plane at certain speeds and air turbulence. One of the wings on the Tell City plane became completely detached and the other nearly came off. It crashed at 600 miles per hour.
