A Northwest Orient Airlines Electra L-188C Crashes Near Tell City, Indiana March 17, 1960
by Robert Grey Reynolds, Jr
The L-188C was on its way to Miami from Chicago when it crashed in a field in Indiana. The flaw that prompted the Indiana crash and several more like it had to do with the Electra's wings and vibrations sent throughout the plane at certain speeds and air turbulence. One of the wings on the Tell City plane became completely detached and the other nearly came off. It crashed at 600 miles per hour.
