The Waste Basket
by Mel Thompson
Imagine T. S. Eliot being alive in this century and writing Wasteland into today's Northern California. This chapbook-length poem seeks to both imitate and also diverge from Eliot's work. Making no claim to equal the great author, I self-depreciatingly named this send-up "The Waste Basket." To some the work may seem cynical, but the intent is to deliver a standup comedy piece and snarky sermon.
