Helen Jewett was the daughter of a Maine shoemaker. Raised as Dorcas Doyen, she entered the home of a prominent judge in Portland as a girl. She was turned out of this home for sexual indiscretions. Her misadventures led to a life of prostitution that she lived in establishments in Maine, Boston, and New York City. My text recounts her demise and the ancestry of her family and two of her clients.
Chase Valentine reluctantly inherits her father's detective agency and her late father's partner. Now they are faced with a deadly criminal wanting to escape the country and she doesn't know if she can count on the partner.
